Program Disclosures and Expectations
St. George Young Theatre is a 100% Volunteer Lead program that functions essentially as a non-profit. Take a look at our disclosures and expectations below if you want to participate so that you know what we are all about!
Also included on this page is a copy of the "Waiver and Release of Liability" Form that is included in each audition registration form.
Downloadable versions of the information listed are included at the bottom of this page.
Expectations
Attendance
-
Attendance is MANDATORY.
-
We have structured the rehearsal schedule in a way that is respectful of your time, and we expect the same respect in return.
-
Not every single actor/actress will be called to every rehearsal; only those who will be blocking that week. The crew will be attending rehearsal the majority of the time.
-
If, for some reason, you are unable to attend a rehearsal, or will be late, you are responsible for contacting a member of the leadership team to make them aware of the situation at the earliest possibility.
-
Theatre is a collaborative art form. Any and every absence effects the entire company and their ability to have a successful and productive rehearsal.
-
It is our expectation that all participants be respectful of everyone and their time, and be able to place the high priority on the program as a participant that it requires.
Behavior
-
Participants will be encouraging to all their peers. This includes paying attention when someone else is speaking or saying lines, cheering at performances, keeping critical comments to yourselves, and being kind.
-
No bullying, harsh or inappropriate language or actions will be tolerated.
-
Participants will be required to sit in the front rows of the theater at all times unless directed otherwise. At no point may participants wander throughout the theater, split into groups by themselves in other seating sections, or go into the annex or backstage unless directed to do so by an adult volunteer. Part of being a member of this troupe is providing an audience for your fellow performers. This is a crucial role and not only serves to give experience to those performing, but also provides learning and education for those watching. If you are not paying attention, you are missing teachable moments. No one is permitted in the balcony unless given permission by staff.
-
Participants may not play games or any other distracting activity on phones or other devices during rehearsals.
-
No food in the theater unless provided by staff. Water is ok, but any spills should be cleaned up immediately. No trash should be left anywhere in the theater.
-
Keep your hands to yourselves. This should go without saying, but we’re saying it. Just in case.
-
No running or horseplay unless specifically directed to by an adult volunteer. Jumping from the stage is absolutely prohibited. Stairs must be used at all times.
-
Participants will be required to listen to and follow the instructions of adult volunteers.
-
If at any time you have an issue with another participant or volunteer please let a member of the leadership team know immediately so the issue may be addressed.
Disclosures
Participation
-
You must fit within both of the following parameters in order to participate in St. George Young Theatre:
-
8 years old - 18 years old
-
3rd grade - 12th grade
-
-
Due to the amount of interest in this program, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to limit the number of kids and teens able to participate in the cast and crew to a total of fifty (50).
-
This is NOT a first come, first serve registration. Everyone registered will be given the opportunity to audition
-
This decision was determined by many factors, primarily with safety in mind:
-
Available space in the "Green Room" to hold the cast and crew during performances and some rehearsals.
-
Number of Adult Volunteers able to be at every rehearsal to look after the cast and crew while not on stage.
-
Amount of space on stage and in the wings.
-
Cast and Crew Decisions
-
After every audition date, the leadership team meet promptly to consider carefully every audition seen.
-
The casting decisions are made based on what we see in the audition, and if the auditioner is a returning participant, we take into consideration what we have seen them do in the past.
-
A major part of casting decisions comes from the level of priority each member of the cast and crew can place on the program. Attendance MATTERS!
-
We also intentionally choose scripts with an abundance of speaking roles and flexible ensemble options.
-
We do our best to stay true to the characters in the script we are casting for. On certain occasions, we have split roles (if it makes sense in the context of the show), switched the gender of a character (if the gender is not a pertinent aspect of the part), and we even add characters in order to give as many actors stage time as possible. This takes a lot of creative ingenuity, but we do our best to give everyone a space on the stage should they want it.
-
We encourage all of our auditioners to keep auditioning. Should you not get the role you want the first time, keep coming back. Show us what you can do with the character you have been given and we promise it will pay off.
-
Our crew is determined based off of a mentor/mentee system. We partner new crew members up with returning crew members, so that they can learn the ropes.
